Greyson is outgoing, funny, silly, and loving. He laughs at a lot, especially with his sister who he adores. His laugh is infectious and he laughs at the simplest things- silly faces, tickles, when you pretend to fall over. Greyson loves Elmo, Gecko from PJ Masks, playing and throwing balls, and playing in the toy kitchen. He really seems to love anything and everything and just seems to enjoy life and being out since he was in a hospital constantly for over a year.
In the summer of 2017, he had an allergic reaction, which led to extreme swelling around his eyes. He lost his appetite and wasn’t sleeping for several days. After a couple of visits to his pediatrician, a final visit was made, and she sent us straight to the ER for additional tests. We spent two hours at our local hospital and immediately, they sent us to Lurie Children’s Hospital which led us to our diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Greyson has endured 8 rounds of chemo (each round averaged around 5 days, the longest round being 10, all Inpatient. In addition, he had 2 weeks of brain and spine radiation and a stem cell transplant which kept us in the hospital for 40 continuous days.
We have a 4 year old daughter, so it was very tough to keep a family balance and give her the attention she needed during his treatment. I was also working full-time and now down to a couple of days a week working from home.
While this has been the most difficult journey, it has taught us so much about living and appreciating each day. Our son has taught us so much about strength, bravery, and what it means to be a family.
Every day is still a worry for us, but we take each day at a time, and are thankful for how far Greyson has come and dealt with such an awful disease.
