Atticus is VERY out going. He loves it when “friends” come over which extends to really anyone that comes to the door. He loves balls, and we play catch and “hit the ball” (baseball) all the time. He likes to play with his dinosaurs and other toys and loves spending time with his brothers and sisters.
When he was one and half, he was having very bad headaches and wouldn’t eat or sleep very good. He was very fussy and frustrated. We had just moved to Pullman for Veterinary medicine school for me (dad) and about 2 weeks after moving here we received his diagnosis of a very rare form of brain and spinal cancer called a Choroid Plexus Carcinoma.
We had to move to Seattle for surgeries and treatments for the next 7 months. We had at the time 2 other children (with #4 on the way) and had to move all of them to Seattle with us, and lived at the Ronald McDonald House.
The diagnosis of brain cancer was like a slap in the face for us. We were not remotely prepared for that to come from our doctor. We immediately felt lost, and found our selves in a very dark place. Early in our journey Emilie and I sat down and made a very intentional decision that we would not let this beat us, we would not focus on the MANY negative aspects and experiences to come, and that we would find the joy in the small things every day. I can honestly say that we did that and have benefited beyond measure from it! Our little family has grown together throughout this trial, and come what may we are ready and will still be here!
